Recipe Writing Tips
When submitting recipes, please review these tips and use standard American measurements (e.g., Tsp/Tbsp/Cup) and Fahrenheit degrees for temperatures.

  • List the ingredients in the order they will be used in the recipe.
  • Include measurements and any precooking preparation. 2 cups tart apples, peeled and cut into ½-inch cubes.
  • Include container sizes. (16-oz.) pkg., (24-oz.) can.
  • List step-by-step instructions, in order.
  • Include oven and stove temperature, and types and sizes of any equipment used. 8” cake pan, 3 qt saucepan, etc.
  • Use the names of the ingredients in the directions. “Combine flour and sugar.” DO NOT use statements like, “Combine first three ingredients.”
  • Include temperatures and cooking, chilling, baking, and/or freezing times.
Also, include any notes or observations that would be helpful to the cook, and note which ingredients are optional, or if there are recommended substitutions for uncommon, seasonal, or expensive ingredients.
